Greenkeepers update December 2024
We get lots of questions about what is going on the course and it’s been a while since we updated people via the website so keep reading if you’d like to find out what work we are doing and plan to do for the the next few months.
Vertiquake aerator used to help Winter drainage
Last week we hired a tractor and Vertiquake aeration machine for our fairways and walkways to help relieve compaction, allow oxygen into the soil and help with overall drainage on the golf course.
Greens running as good as they ever have
The team have been working extra hard on the greens over the past year and alongside the new greensmower giving us a beautifully even cut, the results are some of the truest and quickest greens we have seen at Burstwick.

We have had over 40 divot bags go missing from the club since the start of last year, and we would like our members to have a look in their golf bag, car or home to see if they have any that they have forgotten to return.

The wettest winter in Burstwick’s 20 year history
In 2023 we saw 79% more rain fall than an average year - by far the wettest year we have ever had - and this trend has continued so far into 2024.
Update on The Lungs of Burstwick from Brian Sellers
As the 2023 draws to its soppy conclusion, I thought a brief update on our Lungs of Burstwick Eco project at Burstwick Country Golf would be appropriate.
Golf course back open after record rain in October
The average rainfall for our region in October is 80mm over the course of the month, but this year we saw over 180mm fall onto the course in this time.

Bunkers topped up with 35 tonnes of sand
This week our team have been hard at work topping greenside bunkers up with sand. Some 35 tonnes of sand has been distributed to over 45 greenside bunkers and they are lookin great for it!
Course taking shape going into the busy season

Volunteer Night - Thursday 25th May 2023
We are hosting a Volunteer Night next Thursday evening at 6pm, with the task of reseeding divots on tees, also known as "divotting". What this will involve is using a bucket and hand scoop to spread a rootzone and seed mix on the tees. We will also be tidying up bunkers and repairing pitchmarks.
Lungs of Burstwick Memorial Orchard
We are planting fruit trees at Burstwick for a Memorial Orchard.
Lungs of Burstwick Phase 2 now complete!
The team at Green Task Force and PATT Foundation have been working hard over the past week on phase two of the “Lungs of Burstwick”!
Dogwood bushes being thinned out on holes 6, 7 and 8
We have been removing some of the dogwood bushes between holes 6, 7 and 8 to make the areas more playable.
Trolley Experiment underway at Burstwick
At Burstwick, we operate a policy where hedgehog wheels must be used by anyone using a trolley in the winter months. This is to help protect the course, but I am often asked by golfers if they actually work, or in some cases, can they actually hurt the course more?
New artificial winter tee on hole 5
Through the winter months a select few tees get a vast amount of wear that they struggle to recover from, and the worst is the 5th tee because it has so many divots taken out of it.
Path with raised flower bed almost complete near 7th tee
As you may be aware last week we began construction of a new path around the 6th lake and the 7th tee at Burstwick, with the aim of minimising harm from traffic as it is a particular are that suffers in the wet weather.
